WHICH OUTDOOR SPEAKERS DO I NEED?
Surface mount, Landscape, Lifestyle, Architectural? What's the deal with all these different terms? Outside speakers over the years have evolved and for the better! Which speaker style is completely up to you and for the most part you wont be losing any quality, especially when you have us help design your system. Of course there are always pros and cons to each outdoor speaker which our friendly staff will help you understand and decide which is best for your preference before investing. We can also stop by and offer you a demo. Here are the 3 basic categories to get you started on your outdoor sound experience.
TRADITIONAL OUTDOOR SPEAKERS
Traditional outdoor speakers, also called surface mount speakers, are completely enclosed in a weather proof casing. They also include a rust proof grill, bracket and corrosion free wire connections. Because they are similar to indoor book shelf speakers you can expect the same great sound you enjoy indoors. These outdoor speakers have a 3in to 8in driver and a 1in tweeter. The larger 8in driver series are louder and produce a wider range of frequencies which also enhance the lower bass notes.
LANDSCAPE
SPEAKERS
Landscape speakers are similar to indoor speakers but they are weatherproof and have the ability to be camouflaged throughout your landscape. Some different types of landscape speakers include tear drop, rock and bollard styles. They are usually smaller than their traditional outdoor speakers mentioned earlier so they can blend in around your property. Because they are smaller you may need more to have a unified sound field which we will explain further down the page.

HOW MANY OUTDOOR SPEAKERS DO I NEED?
Music is an emotional experience, and everyone will enjoy it more if the sound levels are uniform across your space while also hearing the entire frequency range. We have all experienced sitting next to a speaker that is to loud or across the yard from a speaker that is barely audible. This is why you need a uniform sound field, this means no matter where you are in the yard the music plays at the same level. A good rule-of thumb we follow when determining how many speakers you need for any given area is: "inches to feet". If we install a 6" speaker it will cover about six feet, we would then install another speaker 12ft from the first one. Of course taking into consideration what direction they're pointed in. Using this formula will make sure everyone hears the sound at the same level. Of course you can scale this system over time but you want to have a plan from the beginning. If you have several different outdoor areas (pool - patio - deck etc,) you can have an amp for each space and control the volume individually or group them together for the same volume. One exception to this rule are Line Array speakers. These are design for large properties and similar to the speakers you see and experience at a concert. They are long, curved and "throw" the sound amazingly far without being harsh to guests in right front of the speaker.

What sources can I use for outdoor speakers? Source is just another word for media or audio signals. Listening outdoors does not mean you're stuck with a limited choice of music.
